Michael Grandage was born in 1962. He is an actor and director, known for King George - Ein Königreich für mehr Verstand (1994), Somewhere to Run (1989) and Genius : Die tausend Seiten einer Freundschaft (2016).

He was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2001 (2000 season) for Best Director for the production of the "Passion Play", at the Donmar Warehouse. He was awarded the 2004 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Director of 2003 for "Caligula", performed at the Donmar Warehouse. He was awarded the 2000 London Critics Circle Theatre Award (Drama) for Best Director for As You Like It performed at the Crucible, Sheffield, and Lyric Hammersmith Theatres, Passion Play performed at the Donmar Warehouse and Comedy Theatre, and Merrily We Roll Along also at the Donmar Warehouse. He was awarded 2000 London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Director for the Passion Play performed at Donmar Warehouse and As You Like It performed at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. In the Independent on Sunday 2006 Pink List - a list of the most influential gay men and women - he came no. 21, up from 24. Ranked #8 in the 2008 Telegraph's list "the 100 most powerful people in British culture". He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to drama. He is the artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse Theatre in London, England.
